The agreement includes a 6-week initial phase of a ceasefire and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza and the release of hostages held by Hamas – in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, Reuters reports.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said he was cutting short a visit to Europe and returning to Israel to attend a government and cabinet vote on the agreement. It is expected to take place as early as tomorrow, and possibly sooner.
In the first phase of the deal, Israel will withdraw forces 700 meters deep along the borders of the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera reported. In return, Palestinian militants will release 33 Israeli hostages in the first phase.
