Israeli security forces backed by helicopters conducted a raid in the town of Jenin. At least eight Palestinians were killed in the operation, Reuters reported.
The operation came two days after a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and one day after Donald Trump announced he would lift sanctions against Israeli settlers attacking Palestinian villages. Netanyahu declared it a new attack against the Iranian-backed militants.
The military says the raid came after a weeks-long operation by Palestinian security forces in West Bank areas under their control – to regain control of a nearby refugee camp that is a major center for armed groups including Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
Palestinian medics say at least eight people were killed in the raid and 35 others were injured.
