Alawites ambushed a police patrol in Jablah near Latakia. As a result, at least 13 security officers were killed, there are injured – their number was not specified. An official in Damascus told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
“The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Monitoring Center” says the attack allegedly killed 70 people, Agence France-Presse reports.
During the operation, security forces detained a former air force intelligence chief, one of the Assad family’s most trusted agents.
The incident was a sharp escalation of tensions in the coastal zone, which is an Alawite stronghold. The tensions are particularly acute in the mountainous coastal area where the Syrian government has deployed its forces, Reuters noted.
Syrian authorities have imposed a 12-hour curfew in Tartous, with people urged to stay at home and avoid any gatherings in public places. Large reinforcements are being sent to the coastal region to control the situation
Alawites say Sunni militant attacks against Alawites in rural Homs and Latakia are intensifying in Syria, despite the new government officially opposing the crackdown on Alawites.
Well, it seems like the plot twists in this region are more intense than my favorite thriller series. Just when you think things couldn’t get messier, bam, another ambush and more tension. The curfew must have everyone wishing for Netflix and snacks as their main form of rebellion. Stay safe out there, history keeps rewriting itself in the most dramatic ways 🚨🤷♀️
This situation sounds intense and really complex with so many layers of conflict and loyalty involved. It’s heartbreaking to hear about the high number of casualties and the rising tension in the Alawite areas, especially since these communities seem caught in the crossfire of larger struggles. The curfew and military reinforcements show how serious the government is taking this, but I worry about how much longer the civilians there can endure such instability. Hoping for a peaceful resolution soon because the cycle of violence just keeps dragging everyone down 😞🔥🕊️

This situation sounds incredibly tense and complicated, especially with such a heavy loss on the security forces side and the involvement of high-ranking individuals. It’s heartbreaking to see how deep the divisions in Syria have become and how civilians must be caught in the middle of all this violence. Hoping for some peaceful resolution soon, though it feels very far from that right now. 😞
This situation is really heartbreaking and shows how complex and painful the conflict in Syria remains. It’s terrifying to hear about such high casualties and the rising tensions in areas that are supposed to be more stable. Hopefully, the curfew and increased security can prevent more violence, but it feels like the cycle of attacks and retaliation just keeps going. Wishing for peace and safety for everyone caught in this turmoil 💔🙏🕊️
This situation shows how fragile stability still is in the region and how deep the conflicts run. Hoping for some peaceful resolution soon 🙏
This situation sounds incredibly tense and tragic. It’s heartbreaking to hear about so many lives lost and the ongoing violence in an area that should be a community stronghold. The fact that tensions continue to escalate despite official efforts shows how deep and complicated these conflicts are.
