Putin declares new short-term truce – in honor of Victory Day

On the days of the 80th anniversary of the Victory Day from 00:00 on May 8 to 00:00 on May 11, the Russian side declares a truce and stops all hostilities. The Kremlin press service said in a statement that “the Ukrainian side should follow this example.” In case the truce is violated by the Ukrainian side, the Russian Armed Forces will give an “adequate and effective response,” the Kremlin said.

“The Russian side once again declares its readiness for peace talks without preconditions, aimed at eliminating the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, constructive interaction with international partners,” the statement said.

It’s interesting to see the declaration of a truce, but I wonder how realistic it is for both sides to hold off on hostilities given the current tensions.

It’s interesting to see the proposal for a truce on such a significant date, but the conditions and the response threats make the situation feel very tense and uncertain.

It’s interesting to see an official ceasefire declared for such a significant date, emphasizing a moment of reflection amid ongoing conflict. However, the conditional nature of the truce and the focus on assigning responsibility highlights how fragile and complex the situation remains. Genuine peace efforts require trust and reciprocal actions from all parties involved, which is always easier said than done. Hopefully, this gesture can open a door to more meaningful dialogue soon. ✌️

Is it really about peace when one side sets conditions and threatens retaliation if the other doesn’t comply? True reconciliation can’t be forced by ultimatums or selective ceasefires. Trust needs more than just words timed for symbolic dates 🧐

It’s interesting to see how moments of remembrance and reflection, like the Victory Day anniversary, can serve as a pause in conflict, even if temporarily. It makes me wonder about the true nature of peace—whether it’s merely the absence of violence or something deeper, a sustained effort to understand and heal underlying wounds 🌿🕊️. The call for dialogue without preconditions feels hopeful, yet fragile, reminding us how delicate trust must be nurtured over time. Perhaps these pauses are not just tactical but invitations to rethink how we coexist and resolve differences beyond the battlefield 🌍🤔.

Is anyone else suspicious that a truce announced like this could just be a strategic pause rather than a genuine step toward peace? Peace without trust feels more like a game of chess where one side thinks they hold all the power. 🤔

It’s encouraging to see a call for a truce and openness to peace talks, especially on such a significant anniversary. Moments like these remind us how important it is to seek understanding and dialogue to find solutions that benefit everyone involved. Hopefully, this spirit of peace can inspire real progress and lasting change 🌿
