Secretary of State Rubio: US may refuse to mediate a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine

US May Withdraw From Ukraine Peace Talks, Says Rubio

US President Donald Trump will withdraw from mediating a peaceful settlement of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in the coming days if there are no clear signs that an agreement can be reached, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in Paris after meetings with European and Ukrainian leaders.

“We’re not going to continue this effort for weeks and months with no end in sight. We need to determine very quickly – I’m talking about days – whether it’s possible to achieve a result in the coming weeks. If yes, we stay in the game. If not, we have other priorities,” Reuters quoted Rubio as saying.

The official noted that if it is impossible to achieve an end to the conflict, the U.S. “needs to move on.”

“We need to determine very quickly now, and I’m talking about a matter of days, whether it’s possible or not <…> If it’s not possible, if our positions are so far apart that an agreement is not going to happen, then I think the president will probably reach a point where he’ll say, ‘We’re done,’” CNN quoted Rubio as saying.

According to the Secretary of State, the United States has been helping Ukraine for the past three years, “and we want this to end, but this is not our war.”

It is worth noting that on April 30, one hundred days will expire from the beginning of the second term of Donald Trump’s presidency. The United States traditionally assesses the successes and blunders of the head of state at the end of this term.

This is a major turning point in the Ukraine conflict. If the US steps back, I wonder who will take the lead in peace negotiations. Europe needs to step up!

Honestly, the US can’t solve every conflict. Maybe it’s time for regional powers to take more responsibility. Let’s see what happens next.

If America pulls out, the EU will face even more pressure to mediate. This could change the entire dynamic of the conflict and Europe’s role in it.

Sad to see diplomatic efforts reaching a dead end. I hope this doesn’t mean more suffering for people in Ukraine. The world must not give up on peace!

Rubio’s statement shows just how frustrated the US is with the lack of progress. It’s a tough call, but perhaps a new approach is needed to break the deadlock.

Wow, so after three years of playing international referee, the US is basically saying if peace doesn’t happen soon, it’s time to drop the mic and walk away. 🙃 Guess diplomacy really has a limited patience timer, who knew? Makes you wonder if “not our war” is the ultimate politeness or just a nice way to say “deal with it yourselves.” 🤷‍♂️ Hopefully, someone’s got popcorn ready for these diplomatic cliffhangers… because watching political drama unfold in real time is both exhausting and oddly entertaining. 🍿😂

Looks like diplomacy is turning into a game of hot potato and no one wants to be left holding it 😂. Maybe they should just settle it with a dance-off or rock-paper-scissors before things get any messier 🤷‍♂️🕺.

This really highlights how complex and urgent the situation is right now. It’s clear that patience is running thin, but peace is something we can’t give up on easily 🌍✌️. The reality of prolonged conflict affects so many lives, and finding a resolution feels more important than ever. Hoping that wisdom and courage guide the next steps because the world truly needs healing and unity 💙✨🙏.

This situation really highlights the complexity of international diplomacy and the limits of mediation when parties are deeply divided 🌍🤝. It seems like the US is trying to be pragmatic by setting a clear timeframe, which might push for more concrete efforts or at least clarify where things stand ⏳. At the same time, it’s a reminder that some conflicts don’t get resolved quickly, and outside actors often have to balance their involvement carefully ⚖️. Hopefully, a breakthrough happens soon, but it’s wise to be realistic about the challenges ahead.

This situation feels incredibly tense and uncertain. It’s hard to imagine how difficult it must be for leaders to decide whether to keep trying for peace or to step back and focus elsewhere. The idea that the U.S. might withdraw from mediation after so much effort is disheartening because it feels like giving up on a resolution when people’s lives are at stake. On the other hand, I understand that without progress, continuing might not be productive. It’s a real reminder of how complex international conflicts are and how much depends on compromise and willingness from all sides. I hope that in the coming days there will be some breakthrough, no matter how small, because peace is desperately needed.

It’s interesting to see how quickly the situation might be reassessed, and the idea of stepping back if no progress is made makes sense from a strategic point of view. Sometimes continuing without clear goals can drain resources and focus from other important issues. Hopefully, there will be some breakthrough soon, because peace in that region affects so many lives. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome! 🤞🌍

Only days to decide if peace is possible or if it’s time to move on? Sounds like the ultimate political speed dating. I hope they don’t rush to swipe left on peace just because patience isn’t in the budget. 🤷‍♀️

Oh great, another high-stakes game where the U.S. decides to jump in only if it looks easy or beneficial 🙄🤦‍♀️ So basically, if peace isn’t just handed on a silver platter, they’ll just bounce and say it’s not our problem anymore? Classic. Thanks for the clarity though, now we know how serious and committed this so-called mediation really is 👏🔥

Honestly, this just feels like throwing in the towel way too fast 😤🤦‍♀️ Conflicts like these don’t get solved in days or even weeks, especially with so many deeply rooted issues at play. If you walk away every time things get tough, are you really trying to mediate peace or just picking battles that suit you? 🤷‍♀️ The world needs persistence, not quitters. If the US steps back now, who’s going to step up? This kind of impatience might just make things worse 🔥🌍
