US Counts on Ceasefire for Talks on Ukraine Conflict

Future US Presidential National Security Advisor Mike Waltz told ABC that preparations are underway for a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

“There are no clear plans yet, we are working on it. I expect a call at least in the coming days and weeks. That will be the first step and from that we will work,” Waltz explained in response to a question about whether Vladimir Zelensky will participate in the talks.

Waltz said that during the talks with the Ukrainian side there will definitely be talk about the number of servicemen and first of all about lowering the draft age.

“Since the Ukrainians are asking the whole world to go all the way for democracy, we expect them to go all the way <…> It’s not just about guns, ammunition and written checks,” Waltz said.

Waltz noted that he wanted to enter negotiations under a cease-fire and expects to do so soon. “That would be an incredibly positive step on both sides. And already it would allow us to enter into some negotiations,” he said.

The future adviser added that the whole world understands that the conflict must end diplomatically, but it is unrealistic to expect that the Russian military will somehow be pushed out of Ukraine and Crimea. Trump realizes this, and, according to Waltz, recognizing the realistic circumstances is a big step for the whole world.

It is encouraging to see that efforts are being made toward dialogue and potential negotiations, even in such a complex and tense situation. The emphasis on seeking a cease-fire before meaningful talks can happen shows a pragmatic approach that might bring some hope to those affected by the conflict. Understanding the realities on the ground seems crucial for any progress, and it is important that leaders are willing to acknowledge these challenges honestly. This could pave the way for more constructive conversations focusing on peace and stability, rather than prolonged confrontation.

So let me get this straight we are banking on a Trump Putin chat to bring peace because that sounds super promising 🙄 Like the perfect recipe for a diplomatic miracle right? Lowering the draft age and hoping for ceasefire talks while basically admitting no one expects Russia to leave Ukraine anytime soon brilliant strategy really Can’t wait to see how this master plan unfolds or if it just ends up as another episode of political wishful thinking 🤡🔥

It’s interesting to see the emphasis on diplomacy and the realistic approach to the situation. A cease-fire as a starting point sounds like a sensible idea, even if the challenges ahead are huge. I hope this leads to some meaningful progress because the current state isn’t sustainable for anyone involved. The acknowledgment that some territorial issues might remain is probably a tough but necessary conversation. Let’s hope for constructive talks soon. 🤞

Honestly, it’s interesting to see that there might finally be some talks happening, even if the details are still unclear. The idea of lowering the draft age in Ukraine is surprising and shows the complexity of the situation. I hope both sides can find a way to move toward peace, even if it’s difficult and slow. Fingers crossed that a cease-fire comes soon because that would be a real step forward for everyone involved. 🤞

It’s surprising to hear such a pragmatic approach being discussed openly, especially about recognizing the realities on the ground with Russia and Ukraine. The idea of starting talks with a cease-fire sounds hopeful, but also highlights how complex and tense the situation really is. Lowering the draft age and expecting full commitment from Ukraine adds another layer of difficulty to what already seems like an impossible balancing act. It feels like a delicate moment where diplomacy might actually have a chance if all parties are willing to face the tough truths instead of clinging to idealistic demands.
