Vladimir Putin has declared an Easter truce

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the suspension of all hostilities 18:00 on April 19 until 00:00 on April 21, the Kremlin press service reports.

The head of state said this after listening to the report of the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov on the situation at the line of contact.

“Guided by humanitarian considerations, today from 18 hours to zero hours from Sunday to Monday the Russian side declares an Easter truce. I order to stop all military operations for this period. We assume that the Ukrainian side will follow our example. At the same time, our troops must be ready to repel possible violations of the truce and provocations by the enemy, any aggressive actions,” the president said.

During the meeting, Gerasimov reported that 99.5 percent of the territory of Kursk region has been liberated so far, and the AFU’s attempts to enter Belgorod region have been prevented. At the moment, all six Russian groups are on the offensive in 11 directions.

Let’s be honest, both sides have broken ceasefires before. I’ll believe in the truce when I see no more air raid sirens and shelling.

It’s hard to trust these announcements when there are still reports of attacks. Actions speak louder than words. I hope for real peace, not just political gestures.

Interesting to see how symbolic holidays like Easter are used in modern conflicts. I wonder if this truce will make any difference or just be another PR move.

Thanks for the update! The prisoner exchange during the truce is a positive sign. Maybe it’s a small step toward more meaningful negotiations.
